Simply being OVERSHADOW....

Been a week since my last post probably... Been bit emo lately, I guess I could fully have a taste of the feeling of being overshadowed... the feeling of insignificance, and maybe the feeling of being not needed... Well, not at a complete disastrous state yet.. but can feel the pressure is building ...

When you feel that what you dream of is constantly under "threat" or rather due to certain individuals that kinda slow down or even worst stigmatized the progress of your dream, it is certainly not a good situation to be in. It could be based on multiple factors such as qualities, talents, connections, experiences, lack of confidence of the alternative etc etc. It would to a wonderful happening or place to be in if your the "lucky" one getting all the attention; but for the rest it won't be as joyous unfortunately.

It is no doubt a fact though a cruel and realistic fact that chances and opportunities are really rare to obtain in this world, to some it might the ONE chance that allowed them to struck GOLD; where else the rest might not even get a single chance to shine after waiting for their whole lifetime. For example, being in competitive schools namely Chinese Private schools... everything is REALLY and I mean really competitive, I mean being in the best class itself when it comes to grading and ranking determination after midterms of finals, 0.25% could change your ranking by 2 to 5 places. So just few days before report card day, students and worst case competitive parents will march up to the staff office with all their calculators, exam papers and results filled with complicated calculations with only 1 goal in mind... That is to squeeze out as many marks from multiple perspective and viewpoints you could think of just to get their kids to the best rank possible. The best few students will always do whatever possible to outwit the other.

Similarly, in terms of non academic competitions such as singing, story telling, public speaking and drama... Like it or not, those who got chosen and won 1st prize in a story competition, the following year the same person would most likely become the "automated" candidate for the similar competition regardless of whether there are new talents in the class or not. I used to be in the best class in our primary school, and truly the same few individuals that won the public speaking, singing and story telling competitions all ended up representing the class for the next 5-6 years in a row without changing of fresh faces.

I always tot that situations like these only exist during schooling times. But unfortunately, the same reality still exists in every point of our lives.... especially in showbiz, the entertainment industry or on the performing stage... If your the best in terms of talents, fame, or connections with an established reputation, you will always be at the top, doing all the main roles, having all the opportunities available with you as priority; in the other hand, even if you have the talents but undiscovered, without the ONE chance for you to shine, you will always be having your talents only.... YOU ARE STILL UNDISCOVERED. Sadly, the already established "stars" amongst your group will always overshadow you.

Have you ever felt OVERSHADOWED?
